Her first visit to the gynecologist...
Hey love... Happy Holidays..... its another blog day and I'll be talking about the girl child's first visit to her gynecologist. In the previous blog post we discussed extensively on the need to raise the girl child with a lot of caution and utmost care and I made mention of the need for her first visits to the pediatrician gynecologist while she is between 13 - 15 years of age.
This in my opinion is very important for two main reasons: Firstly, as a way of developing a bond with her doctor (gynecologist) and secondly as an avenue to help her know more about her body.

I usually would recommend a female gynecologist for these checkups but your discretion would be most important - Simply get a gynecologist whom you are most comfortable with and one whom you can trust but remember as always that in making this selection, her opinion counts..
Most mums disagree on the need to have their babies visit a gynecologist at their early adolescent stages because they believe that it is absolutely unnecessary but this not true and such notions should be done away with. Always remember that all these processes are necessary to prepare her for the future and build her confidence. She needs to develop a bond with her doctor.

Next is the scare that her hymen might be destroyed in the process but this is most unlikely because at this age, she is not expected to have a pelvic exam or a pap smear . No girl child should be getting a pelvic examination or a pap smear until she is 21. The only exception to this rule is if she gets pregnant in her early teenage years. So do not fret about this!
As she embarks on her first visit,Its important you prepare her mind on what to expect and this should be done in a manner that she can easily relate with. She would need to come along with her little diary and any questions she might want to ask the doctor as her first visit would be 98% filled with just discussions and answering of questions. In some cases, a physical examination and an external genital examination may be carried out.
I always fall in love with those pediatric gynecologists who do all they can to make the adolescents first visit a memorable one.!! Nothing feels better....
As you walk out of the door with your daughter after this visit, be sure to seek her opinion on what she feels about the doctor. It is important to know if she feels comfortable being around them.
As she advances in age, more regular visits should be scheduled. It is expected that at this time, she may have bonded with the gynecologist and you can be rest assured that she is in safe hands.
Someday she would thank you immensely for making her life so easy by teaching her how to take control of her health and future. *winks*
