The Male Child Syndrome...

Image
A child is a blessing and a gift from God regardless of the sex but this is not the case in most homes. The preference of the male child to the female child has posed a lot of problems in most African homes and this is a very harmful practice which we must all desist from. These practices have constituted a grave burden on women in most developing countries as they have become victims of these cultural and religious bigotry. At the birth of a son, the proud father spreads his feathers like a peacock...He now has a child to carry on his name! He can now stand tall among his age mates..His voice would now be heard.... The child's mother rejoices also..She is so thankful for the gift of a male child..Now she would be recognized by her in-laws... Now she has a say.. Now her voice would be heard... The male child thus grows up in the family knowing how priceless he is! How indispensable he is! He is treated differently from his female siblings...   This gap between genders kee...

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE....

With a torn heart I wish to post this blog today. The title of this post spurs from the recent happenings in the country  today. Women with unfulfilled destinies lying in cold blood! Children been forced to live without their mothers.. Kids made to watch their mum's go through the most inhumane treatment from men they recognize as their father.. The stigma never leaves... The memory lingers...                '' Mummy is not waking up ...! Mummy is not waking up!!...'' They continuously pull on her clothes..tears flowing non-stop from their eyes! Fear beyond all telling builds up within them... it all seems like a dream.. they watch her eyelids hoping for a flicker of hope and yet she lies there motionless.. while her husband flees before the break of dawn...                               Love that once blossomed becomes nothing but a...

PARENTING

Image
How would you rate your parenting capabilities? Young girls grow up to become mothers with their own children having little or no parenting skills thus giving rise to varying parenting techniques. I will tell you this funny story... A primary school teacher had a female kid in her class walk up to her crying. She inquired on what was wrong and the pretty girl complained that her classmate slapped her face - a male kid. She immediately summoned him to her office to inquire why he would put up such a terrible attitude and he replied her saying '' My dad says when a male is talking, it is wrong for a female to speak also because my dad would slap my mum if she speaks while he is talking''. Terrible Parenting!  Not only is he terrible as a father, he is also coaching his son to do likewise. The kid was suspended from school after a formal confrontation with his parents. Parenting doesn't come with a handbook, its an on-the-job training and its important we do i...

Raising Daughters with Self Esteem

Image
Mothers look at their daughters with great expectations of an amazing future. The joy of holding them at their infancy to seeing them mature from their toddling stage through to their adolescent and adulthood. Its awesome seeing them grow up into beautiful ladies and so you want the best for them: the ability to face life's storm, make great decisions and be bold as they pull through life.  Most ladies have grown sullen and depressed....What could have gone wrong with our baby girls? They've grown so introverted that some have had to turn to friends for succor while others have turned to various social networks in a bid to gain acceptance from an unseen audience. As parents how much have we tried to make these girls feel accepted? its important that you take out time to know your girls better, be their best friends and the first to hear all the dirty details.. Mothers have a greater task to perform as the girls go through puberty and the transition from elementary school ...
