Stay Safe at the nail saloon...

How conscious are you of your surrounding and the hygienic process involving your nails when you at the nail-art shop?

Whether you live in the city or in the rural area, there is never a shortage of places to get your nails done but the question is... How safe are you in these saloons?

Don't get it twisted, even the more sophisticated shops carryout very absurd unhygienic processes while getting your nails done. You should be on your guard at all times.

What would it cost you to have your own pedicure/manicure set? Absolutely Nothing! Then get one...

Dirty instruments and poor sanitation at some nail saloon has put a lot of women at risk for diseases such as Hepatitis B, Athlete foot and even HIV.

When next you have to visit the saloon, here are a few precautions you can take to prevent ugly situations from arising:

  • Check that nail instruments are properly sanitized. Heat sterilization is best. Better still get your own nail tools and save yourself the headache.
  • Wash your hands before a manicure and ask your manicurist to do same. This would help in reducing the amount of palm surface bacteria capable of gaining entrance into your body para-venture a cut is sustained during manicure.
  • Insist on fresh soapy water for hand or foot soaking.
  • Don't shave your legs the night before or the day of a saloon foot bath. Scrapes and nicks can make you more susceptible to infections.
  • Make sure your saloon has an up-to-date operating licence. Most ladies do not put this into consideration but its important, you have every right to inspect their licence before getting your nails done.
  • Ask the manicurist to push back the cuticles rather than cutting them.
If every woman would talk about these things to their manicurist and insist on changes in the saloon hygiene, i'm sure the world would be a better place to live in.

Lets all join hands in putting a stop to the spread of  infections and diseases in our salons.
Don't play nonchalant about this, the next person to get infected may just be your sister, close friend or mum...
So spread the word! Be the change!
